Joint efforts by SDDPC and the City were recently applauded with the 'Excellence in Execution Award' from the San Diego Component of the Project Management Institute. Recognition was for the E-Time Project, led by Bob Jenkins, Program Manager, SDDPC.
The E-Time application is a web-enabled system that allows each employee to enter their own time. The team's efficiency and clearly demonstrated team-playing abilities made for the successful completion of this project approximately 30 days ahead of schedule.
In spite of the size of this project (affecting more than 9000 employees) and its diversity (impacting 37 departments ranging from lawyers to life guards), this project was delivered ahead of schedule and within budget. It has improved the efficiency of the time card collection and approval process and reduced the amount of time supervisors spend reviewing time cards. It has reduced the amount of time payroll specialists spend processing time cards. It has also drastically reduced the need for, and therefore the cost of, paper time cards as well as the cost for scanning the cards for archival purposes. Completion of the project translated directly to significant cost savings to the City of San Diego.
The Project Management Institute defines and supports an industry standard methodology for project management. Projects are critiqued for their adherence to standards in five process groups and nine knowledge areas. Their criteria for excellence are rigorous. It is indeed an honor to be singled out for recognition by this group.
